The 38th General Meeting of Intercable has successfully taken place from December 7 to 12, 2009, in Bologna/Italy, bringing together some of the major leaders in the world cable industry for a comprehensive overview of this rapidly expanding market. Intercable is an international association that includes 78 companies, producers of cables, wires, cable machinery and cable materials coming from Europe, Russia and the CIS, Vietnam and the USA. The General Meeting included a two-day interdisciplinary symposium on December 8-9 at the Royal Carlton Hotel in Bologna, an open-house day at SAMP on December 10 and many other entertaining activities that have considerably improved the co-operation and the team spirit among the members of the association.
The semi-annual symposium organised by Intercable is always the perfect venue for technologists and entrepreneurs working in the cable industry and has covered topics relevant to the extrusion field, drawing from the new generation of cable products based on superconductive materials to innovations in cable marking, from improvements in the machine design and productivity to novelties in measuring and control technology for wire and cable production lines.
The event programme also included a visit to the brand new SAMP facility in Bentivoglio, Bologna. During the visit, the participants took the opportunity to see the SAMP 17,500 sqm production space and guided tours through the factory including the presentation of the latest Sampsistemi developments for the wire and cable manufacturing.
In the evenings, the participants relaxed and got to know each other better through informal dinners, the traditional football match between customers (Elektrokabel) and suppliers (Intercable), which was won 7:6 by Elektrokabel. A visit to the Ferrari Museum and a guided tour through Bologna city centre rounded up a successful stay in Bologna.
The combination of interesting and thorough presentations during the symposium and the possibility to socialise in a pleasant and comfortable atmosphere during the evenings made this Intercable general meeting to a great networking community. The SAMP team thanks the Intercable Association for holding the meeting in Bologna for the first time, as well as all participants for joining in.
